New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) The Supreme Court today pulled up the Tamil Nadu government for not responding to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the state government to adopt road safety measures to minimise road accidents in the state and directed the State Home secretary to be personally present in the court on the next date of hearing.

A bench comprising Justices H K Sema and V S Sirpurkar granted last opportunity to the state government to file its response and adjourned the hearing till January 20, 2008.

The PIL filed by Common Cause, an organisation ventilating common problems of the people, through its President Vikram Lal has sought directions to the Central and the state governments to construct bypass, lighting on all roads and separate lanes for non- motorised traffic, and also providing ambulances for quick medical attention to the victims of road accidents.

The TN government has not yet responded despite several opportunities having been granted by the court.
