Priority to connect district headquarters with NH: Baalu

Itanagar, Nov 30 (UNI) The Centre has accorded priority to connect all the district headquarters of Arunachal Pradesh with the national highways, through improved two-lane roads.

Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu informed this in a letter to Lok Sabha MP from the state Mr Kiren Rijiju and added that the roads connecting all the district headquarters had been included in the modified phase-B of Special Accelerated Rural Development Programme-North East(SARDP-NE) for preparation of detailed project report(DPR).

Responding to Rijiju's request for connecting all administrative centres and providing necessary funds for widening of defence roads from Tezpur in Assam to Tawang in Arunachal, the Union Minister informed that of the 317 km defence road from Balipara-Chardwar-Tawang connecting Tezpur, 89 km was being widened by Border Roads Organisation(BRO) to double-lane standards, which was expected to be completed by 2012. The minister further said the remaining portion of the road had been included under the modified phase-B of SARDP-NE, sources said.
