Chennai, Nov 30 (UNI) Giving a new twist to the killing of LTTE political wing leader S P Thamilchelvan in an air attack by Sri Lankan Army, senior Congress Leader and former Union Minister S R Balasubramaniam today claimed that LTTE Chief V Prabhakaran was responsible for it.

Talking to reporters here, he said ''according to the information I got, it was Prabhakaran who was responsible for the elimination of Thamilchelvan. It was the LTTE Chief, who let the army know about the whereabouts of Thamilchelvan,'' he claimed.

He said the security provided to Thamilchelvan was on par with the LTTE Chief and his movements were kept secret.

''Under such circumstances, how could the Lankan Military knew about his arrival,'' he said and added that Thamilchelvan's visit was deliberately leaked out to the military leading to his killing.

To a question, he said the Congress was always opposed to the LTTE and would oppose any support to the banned terrorist outfits.

On Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi eulogising the death of Thamilchelvan, Mr Balasubramaniam took objection to it.

''Mr Karunanidhi penning a poem to mourn the death of Thamilchelvan was wrong and unacceptable,'' he added.

He welcomed the directive issued by the State DGP warning of action against those supporting banned outfits.

On the medicos strike, he welcomed rural medical service and said the plea of medical students for five-and-a-half year course duration was just and fair.
