Inflation rises to 3.21 per cent

Inflation
rate
for
the
week
ended
November
17
rose
3.21
per
cent
as
against
3.01
per
cent
last
week
on
account
of
higher
food
and
non-food
articles.
The annual inflation rate was 5.56 per cent during the corresponding week of the previous year, an official statement said here today.
The wholesale price index (WPI) for 'All Commodities' for the week ended November 10, rose by 0.1 per cent to 215.7 (Provisional) from 215.4 (Provisional) for the previous week.
The index for primary articles rose by 0.4 per cent to 224.3 (Provisional) from 223.3 (Provisionl) for the previous week.
The index for 'Food Articles' group rose by 0.5 per cent to 224.2 (Provisional) from 223.1 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of bajra (six per cent), jowar and fish marine (two per cent each) and fruits and vegetables, condiments and spices, arhar and pork (one per cent each).
However, the price of ragi, maize, urad and moong (two per cent each) and gram (one per cent) declined.
The index for 'Non-Food Articles' group rose by 0.3 per cent to 208.6 (Provisional) from 207.9 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of niger seed (three per cent) soyabean (two per cent) and rape and mustard seed, copra, groundnut seed and linseed (one per cent each).
However, the prices of raw silk (two per cent) declined.
The index for 'Fuel, Power, Light and Lubricants' group rose by 0.1 per cent to 326.1 (Provisional) from 325.7 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of furnace oil (two per cent).
The index for 'Manufactured Products' group remained unchanged at its previous week's level of 188.1 (Provisional). The index for 'Food Products' group rose by 0.1 per cent to 191.6 (Provisional) from 191.4 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of cotton seed oil and oil cakes (one per cent each).
The indes of 'Textiles' group declined by 0.2 per cent to 132.1 (Provisional) from 132.3 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of texturised yarn (five per cent).
However, the prices of hessian and sacking bags (two per cent) moved up.
The index for 'Chemicals and Chemical Products' group rose marginally to 204.2 (Provisional) from 204.1 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of pvc resins (six per cent) and benzene (four per cent).
However, the prices of purified terephthalic acid (pta) (three per cent) declined.
The index for 'Basic Metals Alloys&Metal Products' group declined by 0.1 per cent to 247.4 (Provisional) from 247.6 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of lead ingots and zinc ingots (three per cent each) and other iron steel, basic pig iron and foundary pig iron (one per cent each).
However,
the
prices
of
pipes
and
tubes
(one
per
cent)
moved
up.
