Home Ministry sanctions helicopter for construction of BOPs
Agartala, Nov 30 (UNI) The Home Affairs Ministry has sanctioned a helicopter for transporting construction materials to maintain the M K Para and Bhim Border Out Posts (BOPs) of the BSF at Gandacherra in the southeastern part of Tripura.
Talking to newspersons here today, Inspector General of BSF Tripura Frontier J A Khan said both the BOPs had been facing the constraints of inadequate infrastructure and despite several attempts, the authorities were unable to manage transportation of the construction materials.
''Finally, we brought the matter to the notice of our headquarters and got sanction of a helicopter for a week, which would carry sand, cement and bricks for the BOPs,'' Mr Khan said, adding that besides construction materials, the authorities had also approved other basic amenities for them.
As part of strengthening the border security, 53 more new BOPs were sanctioned for the state, of which, 14 would be set up before the coming state Assembly elections, he said.
He stated that 15 battalions of the BSF were guarding the 856 km Indo-Bangladesh border and the existing 89 BOPs at the frontier had been functioning without electricity and potable water facilities.
Mr Khan, however, stated that all the BOPs at the frontier would be provided with basic amenities and infrastructure by this fiscal.
