Gangtok, Nov 30 (UNI) A lower court today sentenced former Sikkim Health Minister O T Bhutia to three years imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case.
A fine of Rs 10,000 was also slapped by the District and Sessions Court (East and North) on Mr Bhutia.
Mr Bhutia was simultaneously granted bail by District and Sessions Judge S W Lepcha on a personal surety amount of Rs 25,000.
Mr Bhutia was convicted on November 15 in a disproportionate assets case filed by the state Viligance Directorate in 1995 and chargesheeted in 2003.
He had been found guilty of acquiring Rs 40 lakh illegally and not from his known sources of income.
