CPI slams Mayawati govt over Rs 50,000 cr foodgrains scam
Lucknow, Nov 30 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today slammed the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh for backtracking on its 'promise' of a probe in the alleged Rs 50,000 crore foodgrains scam, that took place during the previous Malayam Singh Yadav regime.
''On coming to power, Chief Minister Mayawati had promised that a probe in the scam would be completed within three months,'' senior CPI leader Ashok Mishra said here today.
''However, even after six months nothing has emerged in this regard,'' he lamented.
Mr Mishra charged that like her predecessor Mr Yadav, the BSP government was also attempting to put the case in the cold storage by not recommending a CBI probe.
He informed that the party had written a letter to the CM demanding a probe in the scam, in which seven ministers of the previous regime, 37 legislators and several administrative officials were allegedly involved.
