Army foils militant attempt to disrupt polls in NC Hills
Haflong, Nov 30(UNI) The Army today foiled a major attempt by Dimasa militants to disrupt the second phase of polls in North Cachar Hills.
Official sources said in the early hours of today an encounter took place between the Army and the Dimasa militants in the Hajadisa area of Maibong police station. The militants were trying to ambush an election party moving to polling stations.
However, some Dimasa militants who were injured managed to escape.
The encounter led to the recovery of one AK 47 rifle, one US carbine and several rounds of ammunition.
The elections will be held tomorrow.
