Jammu, Nov 29 (UNI) Former Minister of State for Defence and senior BJP leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta today said there was a need to keep a ''close watch'' on the security measures along the borders in view of the ongoing developments in Pakistan.
In a statement issued here, after taking over the office of President as a 'civilian' by General (retd) Parvez Musharraf, Prof Gupta said, ''One should not expect any good from these 'Generals' who can do any thing to divert the attention of their countrymen from their internal problems.'' Prof Gupta regretted that due of lack of vision of the UPA government and not having a Kashmir policy, terrorism in Kashmir was taking its roots in other parts of the country also.
''In Jammu and Kashmir during winters, the militants are at the receiving end but instead of giving a free hand to the forces to flush out the ultras, the forces have been directed to 'go slow' and take care of the sentiments of the fundamentalists,'' Prof Gupta alleged.
While the surrendered militants here were being provided bigger salaries and other assistance, SPOs and members of the VDCs who had laid there lives were being ignored and their families were being left high and dry.
