Punjab extends application date of AC-buses scheme
Chandigarh, Nov 29 (UNI) The last date for sale of application forms under Shaheed-e- Azam Bhagat Singh Rozgar Yojna for operating air conditioned buses in liason with the Punjab Roadways and PRTC has been extended to December 13.
According to an official spokesman, buses of integral type and ordinary air-conditioned buses will be operated under this scheme. Bonafide residents of Punjab and NRIs of Punjabi origin are eligible to apply for this scheme.
The spokesman said that all taxes that are levied by Transport Department related to operation of these buses would be borne by Punjab Roadways/PRTC to make this scheme attractive for the public.
It is expected that all formalities will be completed and buses will be put on route within the next three months. He said that these buses are to be operated on lease by the Transport Department for which a fixed per kilometre rate will be paid to the private operator.
The fare under this scheme would be just 10 per cent more that the passenger charges being leived by ordinary (non AC) buses.
The government has also reduced tax on these buses drastically making this scheme attractive both for the operator and the commuters.
