Nashik, Nov 29 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh lauded the leaders of different political parties for coming together for the felicitation function of President Pratibha Patil here and said this was the new era of 'Cultured Politics' in the state.
Speaking after the inauguration of the Nashik Festival yesterday, the cultural event organised to celebrate silver jubilee year of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), Mr Deshmukh said ''With leaders belonging to different political parties coming together for the felicitation function of President Pratibha Patil, it marks a new era in the political culture of Maharashtra.'' He expressed his joy over the country having a woman President, an achievement even the US, the biggest democracy in the world, doesn't have to its credit. He thanked Shiv Sena working president Uddhav Thackeray for his co-operation in achieving this.
It may be recalled that during the Presidential polls, Shiv Sena had not only endorsed Mrs Patil's candidature for the highest office in the country in view of its Marathi 'manoos' policy but broke rank with its ally BJP to vote in favour of her.
Mr Deshmukh said 'Politics of Development' is the aim of all politicians and that's why the government recommended Nashik to be included among the cities selected for the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), irrespective of the fact that the Mayor belongs to another party (Shiv Sena).
The Chief Minister also informed about the government's efforts to develop the 'Golden Square' comprising Nashik, Pune, Aurangabad and Mumbai.
He also assured of his government's co-operation for Nashik's development schemes.
