Jalandhar, Nov 29 (UNI) After three days of hide-n-seek, the forest department failed to trap the wild animal, suspected to be a leopard, at village Foldiwal in the district.
The animal, which had been identified from the pugmarks as leopard, had attacked and injured one morning walker in the wee hours on Monday.
DFO Satnam Singh said yesterday, that they had surrounded the field where the leopard was hiding but even after three days, the animal did not come out. Assuming that the animal had left the place, they withdrew the forest department officials from the site, he informed.
Meanwhile, the forest department alerted the neighbouring villages fearing that the animal could also go there as well.
They had got the permission to shot the animal dead but that would be the extreme step, he said adding that first they would use tranquilizer shots to make him uncounscious.
Deputy Commissioner Ajit Singh Pannu and SSP Arpit Shukla also visited the spot last night to assess the situation.
