Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 29 (UNI) Hinting that the Left Democratic Front was not against the entry of multinational retail dealers to the state, the LDF today recommended the government to bring in a new legislation protecting the small scale retailers.
Talking to newspersons here after the Front meeting, its convenor Vaikom Viswam said the LDF was not ''dead against'' the entry of multinational retail giants.
The legislation should be for protecting the small retailers.
However, the LDF had not discussed the legal tangles, he added.
Asked why agitations were organised by the Front after issuing licence to such retail giants to open their outlets in the state, he said the LDF was not aware of the ''danger'' then and it was trying to correct its ''mistake''.
Mr Viswam said the meeting also recommended a vigilance probe against the corruption in awarding contract to ''aravanapayasam'' to the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple.
Stating that nobody was exempted from the probe, he said Travancore Devaswam Board President C K Guptan would also be brought under the purview of the inquiry.
