Khandu assures to take up boundary issue with Assam

Itanagar, Nov 29 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu has assured to take up the boundary issue with his Assam counterpart for an early and amicable settlement between the two neighbouring states.

He made the assurance to a group of Gaon Burahs (GBs), panchayat leaders and people of the Taraso circle under Papumpare district, who called on him here yesterday to highlight the border disputes and alleged atrocities on the villagers residing in border areas, official sources said here today.

Local MLA from Doimukh Ngurang Pinch briefed the Chief Minister about the whole episode and sought immediate intervention from the state government for a quick solution to the border issue.

He also requested Mr Khandu to provide a police battalion at the Border Outposts (BOP) to ensure security to the people residing in the area.

In reply to the peoples' demand for 18-km road connectivity between Itanagar and Taraso, the Chief Minister informed that the matter was under examination by a one-man commission constituted by the Supreme Court.

Mr Khandu also urged the state Home Minister to depute a police battalion along the Taraso boundary to safeguard the territorial integrity.

Earlier, state Environment and Forest Minister N Tingkhatra informed about the alleged encroachment and boundary dispute in Kanubari area under Tirap district, the sources added.
