Warangal, Nov 29 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy today exhorted the policemen to keep abreast with the latest developments in Information Technology and Science, which were throwing up new challenges to the police in crime prevention and detection.
Participating at the valedictory of 50th AP Police Duty Meet here, Mr Reddy said the reputation of the state police was high for their capabilities across the country.
Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil too had lauded the state police recently. ''You should all strive to maintain the same performance and improve further,'' he said.
Appreciating the police for succeeding in combating Maoists terror in the state, Mr Reddy wanted them to hone new skills to tackle the terrorists effectively.
Unless the policemen sharpened their abilities, it would be difficult to face challenges being thrown by notorious elements, he added.
Policemen representing 19 ranges from different parts of the state took part in the four-day event.
The Home Minister presented gold medals and trophies to 315 policemen, who took part in various competitions.
