GM India opens cutting edge design studio in Bangalore

Bangalore, Nov 29 (UNI) World's largest auto maker General Motors today opened its India's first digital design studio near Whitefield, on the outskirts of the city here.

Speaking to newsmen after the launch, Ed Welburn, Vice President, Global Design, said the design studio was expected to play a major role in the design network with a stress on small cars and contribute to the mid-cycle enhancement of existing models and the advanced design of future products.

Stressing that the design studio in the city would serve as an important component of GM's 11-member global design network, he said by leveraging the unmatched global resources and best practices of the company, it would carry out important projects for GM in India as well as work with other design facilities on important projects for GM on a worldwide basis.

Replying to queries he said the six million dollar design studio would work with GM's Halol manufacturing facility as well as its second plant in Maharashtra plant which goes on stream in the fourth quarter of next year.

Answering a question he said the combined capacity of the two manufacturing facilities would be 2.25 lakh units a year.
