Kottayam, Nov 29 (UNI) The relationship between CPI(M) and Catholic Church, were strained with the formation of a Catholic Minority Forum with the blessings of the CPI(M) in the Catholic Church at Changanacherry yesterday.
The Forum was formed with the Church members who were party activists in order to fight against the Church leadership.
When asked about the formation of forum CPI(M) District Secretary K J Thomas said the party could not tolerate the Church's attitude towards the party activists. The Changanacherry Arch Bishop through a pastoral letter, had asked the Church members not to associate with the Communist Party.
Meanwhile, a Church spokesman reiterated that a believer could not associate with a party that believed in atheism. 'Faith in God and Atheism' could not go hand in hand. Catholic faith was strongly based on sacraments. How a believer could associate with a party that considered the sacraments as a shameful thing, he asked.
