New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) The Border Security Force (BSF) will soon have a 750-member women contingent, members of which will be deployed at various border points.

Stating this, BSF Director General A K Mitra said,''We need women personnel in the Force to frisk women who cross the borders. Men cannot frisk women and so at present, we seek the services of women from local villages to do the job and many a time they are unwilling to comply.'' He said sanction for raising a 750-member contingent has already been granted and the advertisements will soon be put out in the Eastern sector for the recruitment process.

Initially, the BSF had sought deployment of women police constables on deputation from Punjab and West Bengal, he said, but the governments had not been positive in their response.

Mr Mitra was speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a press conference called ahead of the 42nd Raising Day.
