New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won a contract for the manufacture and supply of India's highest rating 400 MVA, 400 kV generator transformers.

Valued at more than Rs 18.2 crore, the order has been placed on BHEL by Adani Power Ltd for their upcoming 3x330 MW Mundra Power Project in Gujarat, a BHEL spokesman told UNI today.

No other manufacturer in India has so far manufactured transformers of this rating and the contract will open up a new line of business for BHEL for the manufacture and supply of 400 MVA, 400 kV 3-phase generator transformers.

With this, BHEL will be able to secure orders for such transformers for 330 MW thermal sets, the spokesman said.

BHEL is also executing a contract for on-shore supplies for the 500 kV, 2,500MW HVDC Ballia-Bhiwadi project of PowerGrid.

The highest value order for BHEL in its transmission business, it envisages manufacture and supply of 498 MVA, single-phase three winding transformers. Notably, these are also the highest rating, largest size transformers of their type so far and are being manufactured in India for the first time by BHEL.
