Kolkata, Nov 29 (UNI) Eden Gardens could be the venue where the final decision on Gary Kirsten as coach of Team India would be taken, as BCCI top brass plan to hold a high-level meeting here in display of their rock-solid backing of the current regime. BCCI office bearers will be present at the venue of the second Test between India and Pakistan on December 1, where Gary Kirsten's appointment as India's cricket coach could be ratified.
''The BCCI office bearers will meet in Kolkata on December 1 where the issue of the new coach will certainly come up. The members would be briefed on all the developments regarding the appointment of the coach,'' BCCI sources said here today.
The BCCI has already made it clear that the coach would be appointed in a week's time and this meeting assumes significance as any appointment needs the ratification of the Working Committee.
It is only after this meeting, that a formal announcement is expected to be made.
Though nothing is being spoken about loudly, it is also to show the rock solid backing that the current regime has from the BCCI top brass.
Other than BCCI president Sharad Pawar, Secretary Niranjan Shah, Joint Secretary M P Pandove and the five vice-presidents and treasurer N Srinivasan, I S Bindra has been called as a special invitee to attend the meeting.
Kirsten, the former South African opener, was the surprise front-runner to be India's next coach. While the Indian board said Kirsten was interviewed by the coach selection committee on Monday and a formal announcement on the new coach would be made in a week's time, some senior officials said what remained was a formality.
