AMD, AIF collaborate to connect children to internet

Bangalore, Nov 29 (UNI) AMD and the American India Foundation (AIF), today announced the launch of a new 50x15 Learning Lab at the Government High School, Doddanakundi in the city.

The new Learning Lab will provide affordable internet access to more than 200 school children.

Ms Susan Moore, Director, Government Affairs, said the launching of the Learning Lab was part of the 50x15 global initiative founded by AMD to connect 50 per cent of the world's population to the internet by 2015.

In addition to providing affordable internet access and computing capability directly to the local students, the experiences gained from all 50x15 Learning Lab deployments around the world are presented in printable capsules at www.50x15.com, she said.

''The fundamental goal of the initiative is to make internet access -- and the opportunities that access creates -- available to a much broader segment of our world's population. With internet penetration still not at the desired levels in India, this Learning Lab will open the doors to the digital world for students at these schools and also provide real-world examples for other programmes to replicate,'' Ms Moore said.

Creating the right conditions as part of an integrated ecosystem is the key to creating educational, social, and economic opportunities for students, AMD India Managing Director Alok Ohrie said.

AIF's Digital Equaliser programme focused on preparing underprivileged students to participate in and benefit from the digital economy, AIF President Lata Krishnan said.
