Tiruchirapalli, Nov 28: Tamil Nadu Transport Minister K N Nehru said the Centre has allotted Rs 17.76 crore for implementing the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme in Tiruchirapalli district during the current financial year.
Inaugurating the additional school building at the Government Higher Secondary school at Mannudayanpatti village near here yesterday, he said 132 school buildings were constructed at a cost of Rs 5.30 crore in the district.
He said 17 more school building would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.20 crore.
Earlier, the minister distributed free colour television sets and gas stoves to the beneficiaries at a function held at Valanadu in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, he said so far 78,094 families were provided with colour TV sets and 11,741 families were given gas stoves with LPG connection in the district.
