Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, Nov 28 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Founder-Leader S Ramadoss will lead a demonstration before the Cuddalore District Collectorate on December ten against the establishment of the Cuddalore Power Company (CPC).
Condemning the Revenue and Police Officials for using oppressive tactics and causing panic during the conduct of a public hearing on the project at Cuddalore today, Dr Ramadoss, in a release here today, said this set a wrong precedent.
Destroying the livelihood of farmers and fisher folk for setting up the power plant was highly condemnable and the 10,000 families belonging to the Thiyagavalli and Kudikadu Panchayats could not voice their opinion even on a matter affecting their livelihood which constituted human rights violation.
The PMK was not against setting up of power plants per se by private players to help Tamil Nadu tide over power shortage.
However, more power could be generated by operationalising plants which were closed due to losses.
Dr Ramadoss also recalled Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's promise of not acquiring agricultural land for industrial purposes.
