Agartala, Nov 28 (UNI) North Eastern Development and Financial Institution(NEDFi) has assured support in post-harvest phase of agricultural production with Israeli technology.
Officials here today said that as part of the venture, NEDFi, in collaboration with the Centre for International Cooperation, Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had conducted a week-long training programme for the field level officers recently to equip academic researchers of Universities, Agricultural Research Institutions and senior extension staff of the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture and other concerned functionaries of the Northeastern region.
Its objective was to train the farmers with the know-how to market and manage their produce post-harvest better thereby gaining a better market for their produce, officials said.
Since the training was for academicians and extension officers, the knowledge would be further disseminated to the farmers through various extension programmes on Israeli farming techniques to help managing the harvest of this region better, NEDFi officials underlined.
They also claimed that the Israeli scientists had expressed satisfaction with the response and they would prepare a proposal on implementation of post harvest management techniques on the growing and marketing of tomatoes and cherry tomatoes.
In recent years, Israel had made tremendous progress in the field of agriculture and their expertise had now been sought by Turkey, Albania, Uzbekistan and Argentina for improving their own agricultural production the sources said.
