MP will join league of developed states in coimng years: Chouhan

Bhopal, Nov 28 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today expressed confidence that the state would join the league of developed states in coming years as a result of successful implementation of schemes for welfare of all sections, infrastructural expansion and industrial development.

Mr Chouhan, while talking to UNI on the eve of the completion of two years as Chief Minister, said Madhya Pradesh -- hitherto regarded as a backward state -- has come up as a developing state during the BJP regime.

''Madhya Pradesh had become backward in all sectors during the 10 year-old-Congress rule. It was not an easy task to bring it back on the road of development,'' he said, adding that the condition of the state had improved due to transparency in administration, successful implementation of developmental schemes and infrastructural expansion.

He said improved financial condition had created a better environment for industries.

Mr Chouhan expressed hope that people will bring the BJP back to power during the assembly elections next year due to its developmental works.

He said 'Suraj Abhiyan' has been started by the government to make administration public-oriented and 'Online Samadhan' scheme for registering complaints over telephone was started as a part of this campaign.

Besides, treasury deficit has been brought down and overdraft problem.

Several welfare schemes had been started for welfare of farmers, impoverished and agricultural labourers. Compensation amount for farmers and poor people affected by natural disasters had been increased.

He said interest rate of short-term loan for peasants from cooperative bank had been reduced to seven per cent from 11 per cent.

Mr Chouhan pointed out that 32,000 km long road had been built, 2,400 MW additional power production capacity and irrigation potential of four lakh hectare had been created. Power was made available to farmers at low tariff.

He said implementation of historical agreement between the Centre, the Madhya Pradesh Government and the Uttar Pradesh Government for linking rivers had begun.

Several new awards had been instituted for promoting and preserving art, culture and history.

The Chief Minister added that implementation of memorandums inked with big industrialists has begun.
