New Delhi, Nov 27 (UNI) The Lok Sabha tonight took up for discussion the Supplementary Demands for Grants (General) for 2007-2008 after Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi insisted that he had little time during the current session to get it passed and send it to the Rajya Sabha.
In a submission, Mr Dasmunsi said it was decided by the Business Advisory Committee and at an all party meeting with the Speaker that the House would sit late today to at least start the debate on the subject.
He said tomorrow was fixed for nuclear discussion, and, hence, the reply could be given on Friday. It would then be sent to the Rajya Sabha which would also have just two days as December 3 was fixed for the nuclear debate there.
There was earlier some opposition from the BJP members to extend the proceedings for taking up discussion on the subject tonight.
Inititating the debate, Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal said there was an additional demand for Rs 33,290.87 crore of which Rs 11,869 crore was cash outgo. This would be countered by matching savings by different departments.
Mr Kharabela Swain (BJP) said the economic reforms started by the NDA Government was jettisoned by the UPA Government. He wanted to know what was the ruling Government's policy on PSUs.
