Haryana enter maiden Jr National Football final

Gurgaon, Nov 28 (UNI) First timers Haryana will take on former champions Bengal in the final of the 44th Junior National Football Championship for Dr BC Roy Trophy here.

In the first semi-final at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex today, Haryana beat Orissa 4-2 via tie breaker after the regulation and extra times failed to produce any goal.

Haryana have never entered the final of this championship before.

In the penalty shootout, Devender Kumar, Sanjeev Chakraborty, Amla Nova Francis and Manandeep found the target for the hosts while only Harish Chander and Prakash Kumar could score for Orissa.

Tatun Das and Pratap Kumar Sethi missed the penalties for the losers.

In the second semi-final, sixteen-time winners Bengal also prevailed over holders Jharkhand (4-1) via penalty shootout after the two sides were locked 1-1 after the normal and extra times.

Bengal took the lead in the 62nd minute through R Lalrindika but Jharkhand equalised one minute before normal time (89th minute) through Milan Singh.

In the tie-breaker, Kalal Ray, Surojit Sardar and R Lalrindika scored for Bengal while all three Jharkhand players missed their target.

The final will be played on November 30.
