Mumbai, Nov 28 (UNI) The Central Government has lifted the ban, imposed almost a year back, on new Bed colleges in the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

The Central Human Resource Development ministry had imposed ban on granting permission for new Bed colleges in all the four states on August 20 last year after the Maharashtra Government complained of more permission, than required, being granted by the Bhopal office of the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE).

The HRD ministry had also appointed an expert committee to review the situation as to whether excessive permissions were being granted.

The ban was lifted on November 26 after the Committee's report was received, Advocate Warunjikar informed a division bench comprising Justice J N Patel and Justice Nishita Mhatre during hearing on a petition on a related matter.
