Kottayam, Nov 28 (UNI) Elavampadom Rubber Producers Society (RPS) in Palakkad has been selected for the prestigious Suvarnasangham Award of the Rubber Board.
Announcing the award at a news conference here today, Rubber Board Chairman Sajen Peter said the award carrying a cash prize of Rs two lakh, memento and citation.
The award would be presented at the inaugural ceremony of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Rubber Plantation Extension Scheme here on December 17.
The award was instituted in 1997 with a view to inspire the RPSs in the country to become more active and efficient and foster togetherness among small rubber growers for helping them to become self reliant and globally competitive.
The RPSs were promoted by the Rubber Board in 1986 with a view to ensure the socio-economic uplift of the unorganised small and marginal growers and the sustainable growth of the rubber sector.
The main objective of the RPSs were to function as an efficient link between the growers and the Rubber Board for facilitating extension communication and adopt suitable measures to increase the production and productivity of small holdings, he said.
