Ludhiana, Nov 28 (UNI) The Punjab Police today claimed to have arrested a youth who could provide vital clues to the Shingar cinema bomb explosion that killed six persons and injured 33 others in October.

The youth identified as Phabdeep Singh was nabbed on the link road between Roorka and Mohiwali villages. A pistol along with four cartridges was recovered from his possession, a police release here said.

The youth was arrested under the Arms Act, the case being registered at the Dhaka police station.

According to the release, the police had been on the lookout for Phabdeep Singh ever since the recovery of three kg RDX and detonators from a car on the outskirts of the city on September 2.

He along with his brother Sandeep, Gurinder Singh of Phagwara and Gurpreet Singh were booked under the Explosives Act after the recovery of the RDX.

The explosives were recovered from a car belonging to Gurpreet Singh, who has links with the Babbar Khalsa outfit. After the Shingar cinema explosion, the police had been working on the theory that the Babbar Khalsa could be behind this incident and Gurpreet and his associates could have played a major role.

However, when questioned, SSP R K Jaiswal said that as of now they could not comment on Phabdeep Singh's involvement in the Shingar incident.
