Threat letter for Puri Seer

Puri, Nov 27 (UNI) The Goverdhan Peeth here has received a threat letter addressed to Puri Sankaracharaya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati asking him to convert himself to Islam or face the consequence.

Goverdhan Peeth spokesman Manoj Rath told reporters here today that the letter written in English as saying that '' you accept the Islam or else along with you all the disciples of the Goverdhan Peeth will be eliminated.'' The Goverdhan Peetha has intimated the matter to the police and sought their protection to the Puri Seer, who is away in Ujjaini.

When contacted Director General of Police Gopal Nanda said he has been informed about the threat letter by the Goverdhan Peeth and reqeusted the police at Ujjaini to provide adequate security to Swami Nischalandana Saraswati.

Police said the letter was posted from Haridwar.

Investigation was on to find out the veracity of the threat letter as the sender has identified himself as a member of al Qaida group.
