Sudhir creates new long jump record

Vijayawada, Nov 27 (UNI) Sudhir Kumar of Haryana today created a new 'national record' in the boys u-18 long jump, winning the gold with the best jump of 7.33 m, on the concluding day of the Reliance 23rd Junior National athletics championships here today.

Sudhir erased the previous record created by Satish of Delhi in 7.32 m at Cuttack in January 1999. The silver went to Angelo S S of Kerala who finished in 7.14 m and the bronze to Saba Bhagat of Maharashtra in 7.05 m.

In the boys u-16 discus, Arjun Kumar of Delhi set a 'new meet record' with the best throw in 51.34 m, ecplising Shivam Singh of Uttar Pradesh who held the record of 50.20 m at Bangalore in November 2006.

Damanpreet Singh of Punjab bagged the silver with an effort of 49.38 m. Kultej Singh of Punjab won the bronze jumping 44.79 m.

In the boys u-20 3000 steeplechase, Avdesh Kumar of Gujarat set a 'new meet record' clocking in 9:42.24 seconds and erasing the standing record of Kber Nalawade of Maharashtra who had done 9:55.63 at Chennai in January 2002. The silver went to M D Ather Imam of Uttar Pradesh (9:52.64 seconds) and the bronze to Nand Gopal B R of Karnataka who clocked 10:05.13.

In the boys u-18 javelin, Krishna Kumar Patel of Uttar Pradesh created a 'new meet record' by hurling the spear to 67.70 m and overhauled the record set up by Arun K Patel of Uttar Pradesh -65.51 m-at Kollam in December 2003. The silver went to Rinku Singh of Uttar Pradesh (64.63 m) and the bronze to Arvind Kumar of Haryana (64.59 m).
