Bhopal, Nov 27 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Assembly was adjourned for the day today after two brief adjournments following the opposition indulging in slogan-shouting demanding Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's resignation on the dumper purchase issue.
After two adjournments for 15 minutes and 45 minutes sans taking up question hour business, Speaker Ishwardas Rohani rushed through the official business in ten minutes after the house re-assembled for the third time even as the entire opposition remained in the well of the House.
Before adjourning for the day, the Speaker said the Leader of the Opposition had not responded to his gesture to resolve the ''stalemate'' through talks in his chamber. Even the opposition did not seem serious in taking up an adjournment motion sought to be moved by Mr Arif Aqueel (Congress), he added.
As the house assembled for the day, all the opposition members -- led by Leader of the Opposition Jamuna Devi and former chief minister Digvijay Singh -- were displaying plastic dumper models and reached the well of the house raising slogans demanding Mr Chouhan's resignation.
On the first day of the winter session yesterday, all opposition members reached the Vidhan Sabha gate in a dumper.
The opposition was demanding Mr Chouhan's resignation as the Lokayukta Special Police Establishment had registered a FIR against him and his wife for alleged corruption in purchase of four dumpers and later hiring the vehicles out to the Rewa-based JP Cement company.
The FIR was registered on the directive of a local special court.
Amid pandemonium for ten minutes after the house re-assembled for the third time, the Speaker rushed through official business laying a copy of an ordinance relating to Cooperative Societies, Finance Minister Raghavji presenting the second supplementary budget for the fiscal 2007-08, Agriculture Minister Gopal Bhargava moving a resolution to elect three members to the Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University Managing Committee, Mr Raghavji moving a resolution to fill up vacancies in the Estimate Committee and Tribal Welfare Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah proposing to elect a member to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes Welfare Committee.
