Railways on verge of defeat against UP in Cooch Behar

Patiala, Nov 27 (UNI) Railways were on the verge of defeat against the Uttar Pradesh (UP) in the ongoing Cooch Behar Trophy (Under-19) on the second day here today at the Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium.

Overnight 131 for 3, UP went on to pile up a huge total of 326 in 105.3 overs before being all out. Ankit Tiwari, who hammered a fine century in the previous match against Goa, was unlucky to miss the ton as he was out for 95, which contained 12 boundaries.

Akash Verma was the other UP batsman to hammer the feeble Railways attack as he neatly compiled 67 with the help of 6 fours and a six. Akash Kumar was also in the thick of runs as he scored a half century, which contained 7 fours and a six. Rizwan Ahmed made 22.

For the Railways, Prashant Awasthi bowled well to capture 4 for 54, while A Pandey and A K Pathan bagged 2 wickets each, conceding 76 and 105 runs respectively.

In the second innings, Railways were 81 for 3 in 28 overs at draw of stumps. Prashant Awasthi was unbeaten on 57, while his partner Sachin Chopra is 1 not out.

For UP, Mohammad Khalid, Rizwan Ahmed and B Kumar bagged a wicket each.

On the basis of first innings, UP had taken a lead of 189 and Railways still require 108 runs to make their opponents bat again on the penultimate day of the match.
