Lucknow, Nov 27 (UNI) Three-year-old Mukesh, suffering from acute malnutrition for the past few months, has finally found a saviour in AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
The Amethi MP has arranged for this treatment of the Jaunpur boy at Delhi's All-India Institute for Medical Sciences (AIMMS). He is leaving with NGO representatives for Delhi tonight.
The Asia Human Rights Organisation, a Varanasi-based NGO, took Mukesh to Ambedkar Hospital in Varanasi for treatment recently. The organisation, quoting Dr Rajendra Pathak, claimed that the boy was suffering from grade IV malnutrition.
The NGO representatives contacted Mr Gandhi, who arranged for his treatment at AIIMS, the state Congress said here.
According to the NGO, the boy weighs only five-and-a-half kg and needed immediate medical attention.
The Dalit boy's father Ram Lanag had taken a loan to buy a rickshaw-trolley. But following an accident, he was unable to earn money his four children, including Mukesh. While two of the boy's brothers are teenaged, his five-year-old sister Madhubala assists her mother in domestic work.
Ram Lanag claims the family is unable to get food grains from the PDS shop as by the time they arrange money for the payment, the stock is lifted.
