Puducherry, Nov 27: The Puducherry Legislative Assembly is expected to meet again in the second week of December to make some amendments in the Value Added Tax Bill, passed on November 5.
According to official sources, the need to reconvene the session was necessitated as some amendments pertaining to exemption of some items from the purview of VAT were to be made and for incorporating reduction of tax to certain items in the Value Added Tax Bill and forwarding it to the Centre for approval.
The session is likely to be for only one day, the sources added.
The monsoon session of the Assembly began on October 24 and adjourned within ten minutes after Chief Minister N Rangasamy placed the copy of the VAT ordinance in the House.
The House met again on November 5 when the VAT Bill 2007 was passed on November 5 replacing the ordinance with which VAT was implemented in the Union Territory with effect from July one this year.
The assembly was yet to be prorogued.
