Kolkata, Nov 27 (UNI) Condemning the Nandigram violence, former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark today termed the incident a ''great tragedy'' in West Bengal.

'' The Nandigram incident is unacceptable. What a tragedy in West Bengal where the Left Front government is in power and fighting against imperialism. Some of the poor people have protested against the government's land acquisition, but the ruling government have recaptured the area by its own machinery, '' Mr Clark said in the All India Anti-Imperialist Forum(AIAIF) rally here.

He said the government should say '' No more Nandigram'' and stop ''torture'' against the people to let them live comfortably.

The AIAIF rally was held against globalisation, imperialism, zionism and imperialist occupation in different countries.

All the participants reaffirmed their resolve to fight and resist the imperialist machination posing serious threat to civilisation and livelihood of common masses.

Globalisation, SEZ and such other imperialist measures had proved to be the US designs, which had shattered people's peaceful life, Mr Clark alleged.

He also alleged that other capitalist-imperialist countries like India were joining the bandwagon and even inching towards developing close links with the imperialist military combinations.

Barring Mr Clark, Nina Andreeva, General Secretary of All Union Communist party of Bolsheviks, Russia, Sara Flounders of the US workers' world party, Mohammad Kassem and Mustafa Haj Ali of Lebanon, Ahmed Chahine from PLO, Palestine and scores of representatives from several countries like the Turkey, Bahrain, Nepal, Bangladesh, Canada were present in the rally.

Later, an AIAIF delegation had sent a memorandum to the US President George Bush through their Consulate.
