Manu Sharma gets no breather from SC
New
Delhi,
Nov
27:
The
Supreme
Court
today
refused
to
grant
interim
bail
to
Manu
Sharma,
serving
life
imprisonment
in
the
Jessica
Lal
murder
case.
A bench, comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justices R V Raveendran and J M Panchal, however, fixed January 22 for hearing the appeal of Sharma, son of former Haryana minister Vinod Sharma.
Earlier, senior counsel Ram Jethmalani, appearing for Sharma, contended before the court that the petitioner belonged to a respectable family and there was no chance of him running away from justice and thus any conditions could be imposed on him while granting.
The court, however, declined to grant interim bail to the convict, who is presently lodged in the Tihar Jail after having been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court.
His acquittal by the trial court had led to huge public outcry.
The High Court, however, reversed the acquittal order and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
