Srinagar, Nov 27 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have solved a cheating case when they arrested a person who used the ATM card of his friend and withdrew money from his Punjab National Bank (PNB) account.

A police spokesman said a complaint was received from sales development manager of HDFC Satish Kumar that his PNB ATM card has been stolen.

He further said the thief had withdrawn money from his account by using the ATM card from different ATM centres in the city.

He said a FIR number 151/2007, under section, 379, 420 RPC was registered and Sub-Inspector Mohammed Shafi was investigating the case.

During investigations Police rounded up one Gurmeet Singh, a friend of Satish.

When questioned Gurmeet expressed his innocence and stated that he had nothing to do with the theft.

Spokesman said during the investigation, the officers find the thief has made one of the ATM transactions at Court Road Branch of PNB ATM where a Close Circuit Television camera (CCTV) had been installed by the Bank.

He said during the scrutiny of the CCTV recordings it showed Gurmeet Singh taking out money from the ATM.

When again questioned, Gurmeet Sigh admitted committing the crime.

He said he had seen his friend drawing out money from ATM and had memorized his code. Later, he stole the ATM card when his friend was sleeping in the Hotel. Later he took out a total of Rs 64,000 in different transactions from different ATM's across the city.

Police on his instance has recovered the entire stolen amount and has also recovered the destroyed ATM card from a garbage heap near Iqbal Park.

He said Police has again solved this blind case of cheating and theft by using the latest technology to their advantage.

However, police remained clueless about the Rs 14 lac burglary in the Jammu and Kashmir bank ATM at Tourist Reception Centre, here recently.
