Bhubaneswar, Nov 27 (UNI) The Orissa Assembly was adjourned for the day today as the Treasury and Opposition benches failed to reach a consensus over the modalities for discussion on the latter's motion on police lathicharge on farmers at Burla.
As the House assembled for the day, Speaker Maheswar Mohanty went ahead with the Question hour as scheduled and asked Steel and Mines Minister Padmanav Behera to reply.
Within eight minutes after the House assembled the Speaker adjourned it at 1038 hrs to 1130 hrs as both the Opposition and Treasury benches exchanged words and shouted slogans and the Speaker failed to bring the House in order.
When the Minister stood up to reply, the Opposition Congress members were seen on their feet holding anti-government posters and shouting slogans in support of their demand.
They then trooped into the well of the House and tried to disrupt the business, but the Speakers allowed the Treasury bench members to raise supplementary questions in the din.
At 1130 hrs, when the Assembly reassembled, the Opposition members were again seen occupying the well of the House and shouting anti-government slogans.
