Aditya Mehta bags senior billiards title

By Staff

Mumbai, Nov 27 (UNI) Aditya Mehta overcame Chandresh Shah 867-620 in the four-man round robin league to clinch the senior billiards title, in the Matunga Gymkhana Maharashtra State Selection 2007 Billiards&Snooker Tournament, here today.

Mehta, of Chembur Gymkhana, romped to his second convincing win from as many ties, which included breaks of 108, 84 and 75 as P J Hindu Gymkhana's Shah crashed to his second defeat in as many outings.

On a roll in the competition, Mehta, who qualified to represent Maharashtra in the Nationals, dominated the two-and-a-half hour contest by remaining ahead with a substantial lead, leaving little room for Shah to pose a threat. Arun Agrawal registered his first win in two matches when he overcame a strong challenge from Matunga Gymkhana's V Subramaniam for a 776-558 win.

Agrawal, who fired an early break of 107, and Subramaniam, who crashed to his first loss in two ties, ran each other close until around the 450 mark before the former rifled in a sensational and decisive break of 215 to take it away. Agrawal's double century break is the highest in the competition so far, as he overhauled Aditya Mehta's brilliant 185 that, ironically, was compiled when the two met in their opening encounter.

Results: Sr Billiards Semi-Final Round Robin: Aditya Mehta bt Chandresh Shah 867-620; Arun Agrawal bt V Subramaniam 776-558.
