Kathmandu, Nov 27 (UNI) Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala today said he was committed to taking action against the Maoist youth wing Young Communist League cadres, involved in manhandling doctors.

Mr Koirala gave directives to Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula this morning to arrest and take legal action against those involved in beating and thrashing out doctors.

The professional organisations across the country were threatening to close down the services unless action is taken against the Maoists youth Wing Communist League activists who had allegedly beaten doctors recently.

''Mr Koirala was positive to take action during the meeting with our representatives,'' said Chairman of the Doctors' Association Dr Chop Lal Bhushal after meeting the Prime Minister.

I would not compromise with anyone regarding the security matter, he quoted Prime Minister Koirala as saying.

''Nobody can remain at large after committing a crime,'' he said.

Professional organisations including doctors, journalists, teachers, lawyers and university teachers had presented a memorandum to the Prime Minister.

According to a local newspaper report, ''Cadres of the Maoist youth wing Young Communist League (YCL) allegedly abducted six people including doctors and directors of Nobel Medical College yesterday and tortured them brutally for 14 hours at an unidentified location.'' In a meeting at the Maoist headquarters in the capital last Tuesday, Maoist Chairman Prachanda and second-in-command Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai apologised to the victims and confessed the YCL's involvement, Kantipur reported.
