Pune, Nov 27: Four international schools are among the 32 teams that will take part in the Abhijeet Kadam Memorial Youth Football Tournament for boys (under-17) to be held at the Bharati Vidyapeeth Educational Complex Ground in Dhankawadi from November 28 to December 7.
Western India Football Association Vice President and Poona District Football Association President Vishwajeet Kadam stated in a press note yesterday that the tournament will be jointly organized by the Abhijeet Kadam Memorial Foundation and the Deccan XI Football Club under the aegis of Poona District Football Association.
The tournament will see four international schools -- Mercedes Benz, Rims, Riverdale and Sharad Pawar International School -- in action in addition to the local school teams, Mr Kadam, who is also the managing trustee of AKMT and president of the Deccan Gymkhana Club, said.
''This being the second year of the tournament and with all the leading schools in and around the city participating, we expect closely fought matches under ideal ground conditions provided for the tournament,'' Mr Kadam added.
The matches will be played on a 90 by 70 meter reduced ground, marking of -B the international sized green top football stadium, the only such ground available in the entire Pune region. The winner will be awarded Rs 15,000, a glittering shield and certificates while the runner ups will be awarded with Rs 10,000.
Other attractive prizes include Adidas track suits costing Rs 2,000 for each member of the winning team. Besides, the best player and the best goalkeeper of the tournament will also get the same track suits, Mr Kadam said and added that all the participating teams will be awarded certificates.
