New Delhi, Nov 27 (UNI) The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 21 fake universities/institutions, the government informed the Lok Sabha today.
UGC has proposed comprehensive changes in the UGC Act, including deterrent punishment such as imprisonment for a period upto three years and penalty upto Rs 10 lakh, besides making the offence cognizable as well as non-bailable, Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandeswari said in a written reply.
Following is the list of fake universities/institutions: Bihar: Maithili University/Vishwavidyalaya, Darbhanga.
Delhi: Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi (UP0 Jagatpur, Commercial University Ltd, Daryaganj, United Nations University, ADR-Centric Juridical University, ADR House, 8J Gopala Tower, 25 Rajendra Place.
Karnataka: Badaganvi Sarkar World Open University Education Society, Gokak, Belgaum.
Kerala: St John's University, Kishanttam.
Madhya Pradesh: Kesarwani Vidyapith, Jabalpur.
Maharashtra: Raja Arabic University, Nagpur.
Tamil Nadu: DDB Sanskrit University, Putur, Trichi.
Uttar Pradesh: Mahila Gram Vidyapithy/Vishwavidyalaya (Woman's University) Prayat, Allahabad, Indian Education Council of UP, Lucknow, Gandhi Hindi Vidyapith, Prayag, Allahabad, National University of Electro Complex Homeopathy, Kanpur, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University (Open University) Achaltal, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh Vishwavidyalaya, Kosi Kalan, Mathura, Maharana Pratap Shiksha Niketan Vishwavidyalaya, Pratapgarh, Gurukul Vishwavidyalaya, Vrindavan, Indraprastha Shiksha Parishad, Institutional Area, Khoda, Makanpur, Noida Phase II, Indian Institute of Science and Engineering, New Delhi.
The matter of recognition of degrees like B.Ed/M.Ed awarded by the Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Lucknow and also its recognition is subjudice, the Minister said.
