Mehsana Congress office-bearers resign opposing Raval's nomination
Ahmedabad, Nov 26 (UNI) Mehsana district Congress office-bearers resigned today, protesting against the party decision to nominate Naresh Raval as its candidate.
The constituency is dominated by 60,000 Patels. Congress workers took out a rally demanding change in the candidate.
Senior Congress leader Naresh Raval, who had contested the elections from Vijapur in 2002, had sought a change of constituency.
He had demanded to contest from Shahpur constituency in Ahmedabad but the party favoured a minority community candidate from there.
Mr Raval was given ticket from Mehsana against the wishes of the party workers. They are demanding that Natwar Pitambar should be given ticket as this constituency has majority of Patel votes.
Mr Raval is considered an outsider, who has never visited the constituency.
