Infighting in Congress election ticket

Shimla, Nov 26 (UNI) A day after the Congress announced its list for the remaining 65 assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh, reports of dissent and infighting within the party are being received from various parts of the state.

Intense infighting within the party has surfaced in Mandi constituency where its District Congress Committee president DD Thakur has decided to stay put in the assembly elections despite being persuaded not to oppose the party's decision.

The party had fielded senior party leader and former Union Minister Sukh Ram's son Anil Sharma from this constituency considering it a cakewalk for him due to his large support base here.

The party was facing its toughest battle from Arki constituency in Solan district of the state where all office bearers of the party uni, Mahila Morcha, Youth Congress, NSUI and Sewa Dal have resigned from their posts against the party's decision to field Prakash Chand Karad.

The Arki party unit has called a crucial meeting here tomorrow to decide its future course of action.

The party was also facing dissidence in Poanta where over 100 activists of Sardar Rattan Singh and Shamsher Ali were continuing to oppose to oppose the candidature of Kirnesh Jung whjo had fought against the official candidate during the last elections.

In Solan constituency of the state, Mr Ramesh Chand of the Congress has decided to contest elections independently following the announcement of Kailash Prasar's candidature from here.
