Gang of autolifters arrested, ten vehicles recovered

New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) Police today claimed to have busted two gangs of autolifters operating in different areas of the city with the arrest of five people.

With the arrest of Dipesh Kumar alias Sonu, 22, resident of Seema Puri and Devender alias Vicky, 25, from Uttar Pradesh, North East District police claimed to have solved fourteen cases of motor vehicle theft.

A police team under the supervision of R P Gautam, ACP North East District police, conducted raids at several places and at about 1830 hrs yesterday when they were patrolling near Gokal Puri Nala Road, two motorcycle borne youths came from the direction of Loni pipeline side, both without wearing helmets.

Police managed to overpower them when they did not stop. They disclosed that they had stolen fouteen motorvehicles and already disposed off six motorcycle while four were recovered.

Three other autolifters were also arrested from Kalkaji in South Delhi on November 22. One Maruti van and four stolen motor cycles were recovered from their possession.

On receiving information, police laid a trap near DDA Parking, Kalkaji Temple, and apprehended two persons coming from Anand Mai Marg when they were parking their vehicle in the area.

They were identified as Ramji Lal alias Pappu and Ved Prakash alias Vedu. One of their associate was also arrested later.

Their modus operandi was to survey areas of easy targets in the day and lift the vehicles in the night. They disposed off the stolen vehicles in Meerut and Uttar Pradesh.
