Warangal, Nov 26 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister P Laxmaiah today said effective functioning of the police reflects the image of the department and the state government as well.
Inaugurating the golden jubilee of Andhra Pradesh Police Duty Meet here, Mr Laxmaiah said the police department was one of the important wings of the government and the police should help the poor to get the fruits of welfare schemes.
''Police should play an important role in maintaining the law and order and help government reach out to the poorer sections of the society,'' he said.
Mr Laxmaiah urged the policemen to update themselves with the latest technology to meet the challenges posed by the extremists and terrorists.
Unless the policemen adopt a more professional approach, they would not be able to handle the situations, he said.
State DGP S S P Yadav suggested the police men, particularly those in the lower rank, to cultive pleasing manners and adopt empathetic view towards the poor.
The DGP directed all the SPs and DIGs to ensure that the duty meets were held regularly without any delay.
On the occasion, cheques for Rs eight lakh were distributed to the two victims of naxal violence in the district and job appointment letters were given to the family members of four victims on compassionate grounds.
