Congress demands Naveen to step down

Sambalpur, Nov 26 (UNI) The Opposition Congress today demanded Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to step down as it had failed on all fronts.

Addressing a demonstration, organised in front of the office of the Collector, Sambalpur, the Congress leaders, including Orissa Pradesh Congress president Jayadev Jena, demanded Naveen Patnaik to resign.

Hundreds of Congress workers, led by OPCC president, sat on a dharna in front of the office of the Collector of Sambalpur as a prelude to the December two mega congregation.

The leaders opposed the diversion of water from the Hirakud reservoir to industries as it would weaken the economy of Western Orissa and the Hirakud Command area, they alleged.

Criticising police lathicharge on farmers and teachers, the Congress leaders said, '' It shows the respond of the present government towards the popular demands of the citizens of the state, '' and warned the government to desist from anti-people activities.

Former MP Sriballv Panigrahi, PCC secretary Naba Das, DCC president Sureswar Mishra were among others present at the meeting.
