CM should take initiative to bring Taslima back to Kolkata:Cong
Kolkata, Nov 26: Congress Legislature Party(CLP) leader Manas Bhuniya today urged Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to take initiative to bring controversial author Taslima Nasreen back to Kolkata.
In a letter, Mr Bhuniya said, " Being the Chief Minister Mr Bhattacharjee, also holding the charge of the Minority Development department, should take sincere endeavour to call a meeting of all the Muslim organisations and look into their grievances to hammer out the crisis for upholding communal harmony in the state." " The Chief Minister should also discuss with the Centre and take initiative in bringing back Ms Nasreen to Kolkata immediately, " he added.
Mr Bhuniya wondered under whose direction Kolkata Police asked the Bangladeshi writer to leave the state and what prompted the state government to send Ms Nasreen to BJP-ruled Rajasthan.
He said, " The communal BJP is cashing in on the situation and the state's rich cultural heritage and secularism are at stake. " Mr Bhuniya also urged the Chief Minister to order an investigation to explore the possibilities of the presence of other elements in November 21 incident.
